Job Purpose:

At Coventry University Kazakhstan, the Legal Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the university’s compliance with local and international legal frameworks. This role involves providing legal support, drafting and implementing policies and regulatory documents, and handling licensing and permit-related matters. The Legal Specialist will advise on a broad range of legal issues, including employment law, contracts, regulatory compliance, and institutional governance, ensuring the university operates within the legal and ethical standards of both Kazakhstan and the UK.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide legal support to university operations, ensuring compliance with Kazakhstani and international legislation, accreditation requirements, and internal policies.
• Draft, review, and update internal regulations, employment documents, and governance policies in line with best practices in higher education.
• Prepare and review employment, partnership, and service agreements, ensuring legal accuracy and risk mitigation.
• Support licensing, accreditation, and regulatory compliance processes with relevant authorities in Kazakhstan and the UK.
• Advise on employment law matters and support HR processes, including recruitment, workplace compliance, and dispute resolution.
• Provide legal guidance on international partnerships, data protection, intellectual property, and cross-border academic activities.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• A degree in Law.

• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in legal advisory roles, preferably in the education sector or corporate environment.

• Strong knowledge of Kazakhstani legal frameworks, with an understanding of UK and international higher education laws being an advantage.

• Experience in contract negotiation, policy drafting, and compliance management.

• Proven experience in handling licensing and regulatory matters.

• Fluency in English and Russian/Kazakh is essential.

• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
