Position: Senior or Junior Researcher

Employment Type: Full-time

Contract: 1-year fixed-term (renewable based on performance)

Position Summary

ERI invites applications for the position of Senior or Junior Researcher. The successful candidate will contribute to both academic and administrative activities of the Institute, with a strong emphasis on producing high-quality research outputs and participating in governmental and international projects. The researcher is also expected to support ERI’s institutional mission by contributing to collaborative initiatives, developing new research ideas, and engaging with regional and global academic communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct independent and collaborative research aligned with ERI’s thematic areas
• Prepare and publish academic articles, policy briefs, and analytical reports
• Contribute to and develop research projects, including conceptualization, data collection, and analysis
• Support the organization of conferences, workshops, seminars, and other academic events
• Assist in project administration and institutional operations, as needed
• Engage with regional and international partners as part of ERI’s academic outreach

Minimum Academic Qualifications

• Doctoral degree (preferred) or Master’s degree in Social Sciences: Economics, International Relations, Political Science, Sociology, Statistics, Security Studies, or related fields
• Demonstrated record of publications in academic journals
• Strong academic writing skills and the ability to produce publishable-quality manuscripts efficiently

Language Requirements

• Excellent command of English (upper-intermediate level or higher)
• Fluency in Kazakh and/or Russian is required
• Knowledge of Turkish is an asset
